How to Get Our Democracy Back

If you have 15 minutes, here's an interesting article from The Nation on how we could reclaim our democracy from the grip of pervasive greed and influence peddling.  Written by Lawrence Lessig, a Harvard law professor and leader of the Change Congress movement.

How to Get Our Democracy Back

Great, just one glaring error-America is not and never has been a democracy. We are a republic:we elect government officials to create laws on our behalf that are supposed to be in the best interests of the people they represent, California is the most democratic in that laws via propositions can be passed by the people, but are then subject to legislative review. Maybe if we actually had a democracy we'd get a bit more done.

Good article. I'll take a pass on commenting on Bill's suggestion that California's system of mob rule and gerrymandering is somehow a model of good government. The system can't be fixed and discussing how or why it's broken, while interesting, won't ever change that basic fact. On the other hand, it's all a matter of perspective; if you're super rich, then then system works just great. When you guys want back into the Empire, I'll pass along the request.

You must also understand that if you were the size and stature of young master William, you might too advocate for mob rule.
